52pp2 Catchup Post,,, and I'm not talking tomatoes

The weather is nice and although I am not an 'outside' person, I have been taking advantage of the cool summer nights. Which in turn leaves me lacking when it comes to sitting in from of the PC. I have been coming along strong in the 52pp2 plunge and just finished my ninth pair since the June1st. I'll just give a taste of the socks I've done so far.... (flickr set)

I also have been working on a really pretty one skein scarf/shawl. I can't wait to finish this but I am not in a big hurry because I won't be wearing it for another month or so...scarf weather comes early in my household. I try to wear them in replacement of a coat when chilly weather comes. I have a dislike of jackets but yet I keep buying them in hopes that I might find "the one", in the meantime I have enough scarves to keep my neckage warm and whatnot.
Anywho, I started this scarf because I didn't want to use the Noro Sock for socks becase I'm a firm believer in washing socks in the washer. Although that notion went out the window recently because I did a pair of Spring Forward socks in Knitpicks Gloss Sock.

Sunday Market Shawl

The crochet monster came knocking at my door this past week to ask me why I haven't crocheted in a few years. I had no response so... in turn... I cast on a scrap ripple blanket.

I have to take an updated picture because it has doubled since this pix.
I have quite a bit of acrylic that will not really be used for anything of major size so I figure I might as well start a second scrap buster blanket. Now this ripple blanket will have to compete with the Log Cabin Square blanket I started a month or two ago. I have more then enough yarn for both...time is the issue.

I am hoping to finish the second Cable Twist sock that I cast on yesterday. I got a good jump on it today and have about 15 straight rows until the toe decrease. I cast on a pair of Broadripple socks in Knitpicks Telemark, colorway Delphinium Heather. They are coming alot very fast and this is the first pair in a while that I have done on dpns.

The picture was taken just a few minutes ago, he fell asleep on my laptop and I haven't taken a good picture of him for quite a long while... Yes he does have a hairless budda belly. He takes after his cat mom and cat dad.....

I finished my first pair of socks that will count for the 52 pair plunge. I don't think I will post every pair that I complete on this blog but I will certainly try. I really enjoyed knitting these, it only took 6 days and I did knit another sock in between sock one and two. I also have alot of yarn left and really love it... leftover socks :)

Monkeys and Cables Twists.....

I started and finished this sock yesterday. I am really liking Neon Monkeys! This is my second pair of Monkey socks in Opal Neon. This if my first sock for the 52 pair plunge kick off, now I just need to do it's mate. I only did 4 repeats on the cuff because I don't really like high cuffs and they don't fit well with my thicker calves. This is the um, the fourth sock that doesn't have a mate.... help! I am sinking in second sock syndrome - but yet I cast on another sock that isn't a second. What is wrong with this picture!

So speeding along.....I started this sock yesterday after completing the first Neon Monkey. I want to finish these socks before the weekend. There will be no second sock syndrome with this one. I am really going to try, really try and if I don't succeed then I will have five socks without a mate.

I changed up the pattern just a bit to be 64 stitches and the repeats are k6, p2 instead of k5, p2

So really now.. keep your fingers crossed for a second sock to come from somewhere.

I reorganized the sock stash today. I bought these three hat boxes in Philly when I went on the LYS mission. All three boxes were less then ten bucks and make excellent storage containers that are stylish too. The little green bin on top is from the buck store, and excellent purchase also.

Nutkins - FO (APRIL KAL)

Finished my Nutkins last night and kitchenered the toe this morning. This was my first time using KPPPM and I liked the colors and the feel of the yarn so there should be some add'l purchases in the future. I did experience biasing the same as alot of other people but this didn't bother me enough to mirror the pattern. Some did mirror the pattern but experienced a downfall of stretch.
Although this is my fourth pair of completed socks (including a baby pair of Nutkin) for the month of April, this is the pair that counts for the Sock KAL for Apri l.

The Egg Dye Sock Yarn Experience

I bought up a few egg dye kits on 50% clearance this year in hopes to dye up some of my own yarn. I got three skeins of KP bare fingering weight yarn recently and here are my results from dying just one skein so far.

FIVE very generalized steps to your own hand-dyed yarn!!

Step One: Soak 30 minutes in vinegar water.

Step Two: Mix up the dyes with a bit of vinegar, no vinegar in the pink.

Step Three : Put yarn evenly into the dye mugs and nuke for two minutes, let rest two minutes...on and off for about 10 minutes or until all dye is soaked up and water looks clear-ish. ( no picture...yarn was in the microwave)

Step Four : Allow to cool down and rinse gently.

Step Five : hang to dry and wait anxiously to wind up your new hand-dyed creation.

This yarn will self stripe with white bits between all the colored stripes. This will be the next pair of socks :)

April Kal - Nutkins

I started my April sock on March 30th, which I know was a bit of a cheat, but really who is going to punish me? The knitting nazis might get me!! Anyway, I started knitting the first sock on size one needles. I don't know what made me think that I would get gauge with needles that small. I am a loose knitter but I don't care how loose I knit, I got the first repeat done and tried them on.. good to go :) and then.. I got five repeats done and I was ready to start the heel. I tried them on again, just because the progress is so fun to see on an actual foot...Yea so I pretty much wanted to rip my hair out but ended up having to frog everything but the ribbing. I decided on going to my trusty size 2 harmonys and was able to fly thru 4 repeats and now I have an entire sock done. I may have set a world record, or not.... I did this entire sock in four days including the almost losing my hair frogging incident.

I also got a skein of Vesper sock yarn, which is appropriately named "trick or treat". I may hold out on making a pair of socks until September so they will be ready for plenty of October wear. I love this pattern alot even though this is only the second time I am making a pair of Monkeys.... These are coming along well. I want to try the purl less version but I don't want to Monkey myself out.

First pair of socks is made with Regia in the Jaywalker Pattern, second is a pair made with Knitpicks Essentials in ash and some misc multicolored sock stash using the Prism sock Pattern

WIP-February Socks(Valentine Edition)

Jaywalker ONE is done!!! I am taking a brief jaywalker hiatus to start a pair of Prism socks. I really like the pattern and can use up some misc multicolored yarn that I got thru Destash. I will def get both pair done before the end of Feb so there is no second sock syndrome or any other sock related illness on the horizon.

I haven't worked on Mr Tealjeans in over two weeks :(
The goal was to have it done before superbowl. The superbowl is tomorrow and I am not even close. I will def finish it soon but I hope there will enough chilly weather to wear it.

WIP-February Socks

I cast on for my February socks on Thursday and then recast on again yesterday. I had to frog the first start because they were way too big. I dropped 4 stitches and these fit alot better. I really like the pattern and because it is easy to memorize I can knit along without much thought. Mindless knitting is really my favorite kind.
Is it considered cheating if I cast on for a February sock in the month of January? I don't think it's a major problem. I wil most likely get two pair of socks done in Feb anyway, so oh well. Sock KAL's are fun. Ravelry is fun! Knitting is fun!

I quick pair of Saartje's Bootes (pdf file) to squeeze in before I start February's socks. The pictures are terrible because it is night but I had to take a pix because they are soo cute. In all I used 20 grams of leftover sock yarn!
I need to add buttons, I have cute strawberry buttons but I may use them on a sweater.... decisions! decisions!

I knit them both on Sunday while watching football so in all I would guess it took me less then two hours total. I really like these and will make them again.

General Update

Mr Tealjeans is going strong. I have a big chunk of the cable rib done and I will be casting off the bottom within the next week. I kinda dread working on the sleeves for a few reasons. I don't like working on dpns or magic loop with a giant monstrosity of sweater constantly turning and twisting as I work on it. It also gets pretty monotonous even tho I will most likely add special decreases so the sleeve are a good fit. I have short arms and want to make sure the cables start in the right place. I am thinking about adding a lifeline at the sleeve joint just incase I knit up a sleeve and hate the fit.

Neapolitan socks are coming along nicely also. I have one down and I am to the heel turn on the second one. I will hope to hack away at these tomorrow while doing some football knitting. I think that is the best time of the year..lol - playoff football=great knitting. I am not sure if I'm keeping these socks, I like the colors which I have started to call "neo" socks but I'm not too savy on the acrylic feel on my feet, even if these are just house socks.

I want to start my Feb socks for the KAL after the "neo" socks but I don't know if that is a legal move. I am itching to start either broadripple socks or roundabout socks. I may do Jaywalkers in Opal Neon... so many choices and not enough knitting hours in the day!

I started a BSJ(Baby Surprise Jacket) with some Bernat Softee in some really brite colors that I have in my stash. I guess I don't know how to count because I am about 20 rows in and I have to frog the entire thing. My decreases are soooo wonky and cannot be fixed. Two hours down the knitting drain. poopsicles.

My mom was calling me incessantly the other day because she wanted to know how to wash her socks that I made for January's commitment. I told her that there are three ways you can do it. If you want them to last hand wash and dry flat. If you want them to be really clean then machine wash and lie flat. If you want them soft but possibly eaten by the dryer then machine wash and machine dry.
She said "I'll machine wash and dry those"...."if they get eaten you will make me new ones"...pfftt she is sooooo right.

I went to A.C. Moore because I still ~~have~~ had a 25$ gift card and bought some fingering weight baby acrylic. I don't know why other than because the colors were soo nice. I started a pair of cable twist socks on Saturday and finished one yesterday. I have to start the other and finish before the end of the month so my needles are empty for the start of my February socks.

I am really making some good progress on Mr. Tealjeans. I really like this sweater to far because there are no seams and I really not one for finishing. As long as there are only a few ends to weave in after the knitting has commenced, I will be a happy camper.
I started the cable rib portion today and so far I have memorized the four row repeat. I could knit the remainder of this bugger without looking at the pattern because I have read ahead so many times because I don't wanna screw it up.

Santa was good to me, or should I say all of my family was good to me when it comes to all the yarny goodness in the world. Honey Bee bought me one of each of the colors of Opal neon from LittleKnits.com . I bombarded him before xmas because I knew it wouldn't be on sale forever and I didn't want to miss out on all the colors. I have been eyeing this up since it came out in April of this year and haven't bought any because I couldn't hack the price ($18 bucks, best I found was $14)... Anyway, I got eight skeins at $7.40 each which is excellent.

I bought 6 skeins of Caron Simply Soft Heathers in Deep Teal to start my Mr.Greenjeans with my Walmart gift card from J's dad. I have been really spoiled with Raverly these days and I don't even feel like linking anything in this post, so use your google muscles if you need to see the color or pattern. Seriously I think that Ravely is the best thing since sliced bread, even tho I have had sliced bread my entire life and have never had the experience of slicing my own sandwich bread.
I also got a gift card from Michaels, Joann's and AcMoore and a gift certificate for knitpicks. I can't even start to think of the cool stuff I can get. Oh yarn, how I love you soo sweet. I know I need to get a sweater stone and hopefully scope out a yarn swift.

I also bought a postal scale today so that I can divide my 100gr sock skeins into two 50 gr balls and so far it works pretty well....

FO-Knee Socks

Yay! I finished the 'knee socks' that I was working on for my sister's x-mas gift. I just need to block them and wrap them up. I just took pictures and let me tell you how hard it was to take them! I got the pictures that you normally take with no probs but trying to take a picture of the back of your own legs is harder then it seems. I tried self timer on the chair, self timer on the floor, bending backwards and standing in my own light, etc. Kitty even tried to get in some of them and I kept telling him to get out of my shot. Anyway, here they are....

Pattern:Mitten from Knit n' Style (December 2007)
Yarn: knitpicks wool of the andes and swish leftovers from hats, etc.
Needles: size 6 dpns

These mittens are made from the top down and I really liked the pattern until I got to the thumb and the remainder of the pattern is in the Feb 2008 issue. I had to figure out the rest of the pattern from the thumb down which wasn't a problem but kinda ticked me a bit. I guess it will teach me to read the pattern entirely before I start, then I would have known that the entire pattern wasn't there. I will gift these to my sis for x-mas. She already has a hat made from knitpicks swish in grey and purple and these mittens will match great.

I haven't worked on these since August. I can probably finish these before x-mas but I don't think I need them for a gift like I had thought when I started these. I really like the color so I might keep them for myself. I like to do all my felting at once because it is a waste to run the washer for just a pair of slippers.

Needles: Knitpicks Harmony size 2 (I LOVE THESE)

These are going to be gifted to my sister for x-mas. I will def have these finished before then if not before the end of the weekend. I really like these but not for me.

WIP-Palindrome scarf

Yarn: less than 2 skeins of SWS in color Natural Earth
Needles: Size 7 and a spare size 6 dpn for cables

I loved this yarn and this pattern together. I normally do cables without a cable needle but this time to make the reversible cables I used a spare dpn for a quick turnaround. This is going to be a x-mas gift for my mom, but she doesn't internet so no prob with posting this now. I have to make a hat to match but I should have no prob kicking out a cabled hat to match with the leftover skein I have. I bought three just incase... leftovers are always good :)

Here is a finished baby sweater and blanket that was gifted in August to a friend's sister. I didn't change a thing about either of the patterns. I really think the buttons made it pop.

Sock stash

Long time no post. I pretty much just read the knitting posts on livejournal. I joined a sock KAL and I figure I might as well capture the insanity that is my sock stash. I never realized how much knitpicks sock yarn I have. I normally buy enough from knitpicks so that I get free shipping so last time I bought tons of their new sock essential colors. So here it is, luckily it snowed last night and the other half is outside shoveling so I can take pix and not worry about him seeing the real size of the stash. I figure I have enough to make at least 20 socks, but I didnt take pictures of any of the partial skeins. Also, Santa is bringing me 7 skeins of Opal Neon (from littleknits.com...it's 60% OFF right now) and I just bought some Regia from Destash so that should take me to almost FOURTY PAIRS OF SOCKS. So joining a knit-a-long will help me to keep a goal of making at least one pair of socks a month.

More Mariah progress. I kinda worked on this on and off today in between shoveling all that snow. I made a couple of flubs but I am not a perfectionist and it's handmade. Most 'non knitters' wouldnt see them anyway. I really like the color but can't wait to have at least one sleeve done. I'm doubtful that I will go to work tomorrow because we got so much snow. ( State of emergency kind-of-snow )
I need a Mariah break for tonite :)

Cast on Mariah

I cast on Knitty.com's Mariah last night. So far I have some of the sleeve done and It's going pretty well so far. I am using Lion Brand wool-ease in Oxford Grey .
I bought ten skeins @ Joann Fabrics when they were on sale for $1.79 each. That means my sweater will cost less then twenty bucks when it is done.
I should get alot of this done today because I took a snow day from work.

A scarf that I am working on now for myself. This is a simple stock stitch with garter border on both sides.
The yarn was $2 a skein @ Michaels on Friday when I went and I needed something to work on while I was on my three hour salon excursion.
I dont think this will block well because there is no wool content but I might steam block this lightly.

I am going to be making "heart" from knitty.com's womens issue from this yarn. I really like the twists of color in the varigated cascade. I am not sure I am going to double these or just single them and make just one.

This came out wayyy too big, I used a smaller needle then the pattern calls for and it was still way too big. I will try less cast on stitches for the next one. I really like this pattern.

I cast on one Jaywalker about 2 weeks ago and have since finished it and cast on the second. Why didn't anyone emphasize the addictive-ness of this pattern? It is very easy to remember and comes out so nice even tho the yarn that I used has the worst color repeats ever!!!

I may gift these to someone for X-mas... I need to take some pictures.

Real LYS

I went to my first REAL Local Yarn Store. It was soo awesome.. and only about 30 miles away, which isn't that bad because I was willing to buy yarn when I was in New York City with my mom when we were there approx a month ago. Anywho, there was soo much to look at that I was dumbfounded on what I would actually buy. It was there about 40 minutes and came away with (5) skeins of Cascade 220, which was on sale for $4.95 a skein and (3) skeins of sock yarn, 100 gr each... althoughter I spent about $55 dollars.

I should take some stash pictures but I actually started a top down cardigan (pattern from cosmic pluto, google to find it)... I am already on my second skein and really love how it is coming along. I think the sizing will be a bit tight in the bust area but everything is tight on me in the bust area. I really hope when I block it that it comes out nice because this is the first cardi that I made for myself.

In other news, X-mas gifts have been started and I need to make a good list of things and find out what I need and when:

(1) pair of black/red socks (Scott), FINISHED
(1) pair of fruity colored socks (My Mom), FINISHED
(1) felted booga bag (Jeremy's Mom), 1/3 done..I cord is done so I'm happy
(1) basketweave scarf + panta (Sam), 1/2 scarf done, Panta not started
(1) neckwarmer with my own pattern (My Dad), not started, didn't write pattern
(1) skull scarf or other skull related item (Gina ), not started-didn't decide yet

I also need to complete a Big Bad Baby Blanket and baby cardigan for mid-January, both are started, the blankee is past the half way point and the cardigan is 3/4 done, there is 1/2 sleeve done with another to be completed.

I also want to dye some Knitpicks Wool of the Andes, natural with some Kool Aid and make the "my so called scarf"... I did a few rows of it with some acrylic and it is an easy pattern with a really nice result. This might end up on the FOR ME! list :)

I don't know what kinda of blanket, but I know that I want to make a blanket with all of the Moda Dea colors that I have, I think I should have enough to make something really nice and soft. That stuff has been around since last X-mas when I bought it on sale with the X-mas gift cards. I need to put that to use..

Sock Stash Building

I hit up AC Moore two Sunday's ago because they were having a Moonlight Madness thing with 25% off everything in the store. I got one of each color they had... Now I just need some sock patterns to pair them up with.
I will be starting a pair of Jaywalkers now that I finshed the black and red socks (as below)
I am not sure which color I'm going to do them in, but I know not the black/red colorway... I want something spicy!!!

I just finished off the kitchner toes a few minutes ago and I'm pretty happy with these so far. I had my BF try them on although he takes a size 12 1/2 and the person that I am giving them to has a size 10 1/2 or 11 foot.
I am glad these are done, one less that needs to be done for x-mas!!!

I really need to block these buggers, they look kinda wonky now.

WIP - Purple Basketweave Scarf

I'm hoping to have this one done by X-mas along with some leftover yarn so that I can make a Panta to match. I know who this will be gifted for and I guess this is a back burner project because I don't think it will appreciated. I don't know why I'm making it other than because it would be a nice gift. I am not sure If I am more worried about giving a nice gift or the person appreciating my work.

Another Knitpicks sock, notice that I say "sock" and not "socks"... this is also an orphan sock that needs a mate. I haven't even cast on the other one which stinks because I know I will have to do alot of counting to make a second. These look kinda fat but will be gifted to a guy with a long foot. I hope to have the other one done by X-mas so that I can give a pair.

WIP - Rainbow Baby Sweater and Big Bad Baby Blanket

I started this sweater only last Sunday and I am already to the armholes. This is the same pattern that I used for the pink and blue baby sweater that I already posted. I am also using the same yarn to make the Big Bad Baby Blankee from SNB. I double stranded some baby yarn and so far the colors are great and I really like the pattern. It's good when you just want some mindless knitting while watching tv.
I need to have this one done before December 1st because it is going to be gifted to my Uncle Frank and Lori. HOPEFULLY they will be having a little girl. I really liked the yarn when I bought it and normally I will make a neutral gift or make two, one in a girly color and one in a boy color.

WIP - Toe Up Knitpicks Socks

One down and just one to go. That seems to be the formula for all of the socks that I have made so far. I have an itch to make some socks and then I get bored after one and I have a single sock lying around. At least I did the other toe so that I can pick it up and start the second one..
These are done up in KnitPicks Simple Stripes I don't think this color is available. I also made a pair of socks for my mom for x-mas in this color. She loved it when she saw it so I told her that I was making them for someone else.

WIP - Stash Buster Top Down Raglan

I'm doing this one with some stash acrylic and hopefully this will turnout to be a good stash buster. I didn't realize that changing colors every few rows would turn out to be such a pain.. I didn't think about all those ends to weave in. I've started to weave them in every few color changes so that I don't have so many in the end. I wish I had this one done because it's getting chilly outside and I would like to wear it this fall. I doubt it tho.. maybe next fall.

WIP - Pink Baby Sweater

This is the girly version of the blue baby sweater that I posted earlier. I didn't add the buttons but all of the knitting is done... I still consider this one a "work in progress" because it cannot be considered complete without the buttons. I started this one on my birthday this year and got it done in less than two weeks. I kinda felt funny because I was knitting this on the bus trip to Atlantic City with a bunch of old people, and old ladies in particular and none of them asked about my knitting.
I have white buttons to add to this one, they are the cheapy ones from Joann Fabrics, you get 5 buttons for 80 cents. Can you beat that?

WIP - Tweed Cable Socks

I just started the first sock on my pair of cable knit socks. I am making them out of Knitpicks Essential Tweed (see color below)... So far they are not that bad even tho they are on size 0 needles. I wish I knew what made me think of doing that. They are coming out great tho.. pictures to come soon.

From the SnB... Baby's First Tattoo, minus that tattoo. This was taken prior to duplicate stitching the grey skulls on it. I made this out of Knitpicks Shine Sport in "cherry" and "cloud"

This one made me kinda ahsdfhjkdfh because of all the seaming. I am not particularly perfect when it comes to seaming and this was a pain in the end. I made this one before I came upon a pattern for a top down SEAMLESS raglan(see FO below,baby sweater)
I would def not make this one again but it was cute for a baby gift.

FO -Watermelon Hat

Hey lookie!! It's a watermelon hat. I made this one out of scrap acrylic, a quick knit on dpns and duplicate stitched the "seeds" on when it was done. Google the phrase "knit watermelon hat" and I'm sure you will find it. Let me know how it comes out of you make it.

FO - Fruity Socks

Here's a pair of socks that were made with Red Heart...it was varigated and I don't remember the color. These were a simple sock pattern and took me about 4 hours each sock. I really like the colors on these although they aren't very nice on the feet because they are worsted weight acrylic. I'm thinking that this was my second attempt at socks. My first attempt was also with Red Heart, my boyfriend actaully wears them although they are bright cornflower yellow and my purls and knits were a bit confused and there are purls on the knit side that shouldn't be there.
Since this pair I've progressed quite a bit and learned along the way!!!

FO - Skully Tote

This is the Skully Tote from Hello Yarn. I made this one pretty quick with some knitpicks wool of the andes in "coal" and "red"... This was my FIRST colorwork project and FIRST attempt at felting. I unfortunately didn't make this really big and it doesnt hold very much. I do really like this pattern and will make this again, of coarse with size in mind. (I guess I should have gauge swatched first too)

First off, the blue baby sweater. This was a great sweater because it's a top down construction and NO SEAMS. I made another one in baby pink because it was so cute and I'm working on another one now in rainbow baby colors(more pix of that one to come shortly)
I ended up gifting this one to a girlfriend that just had a boy.
